Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
